A Brand New Project
Our friends at Navigo Mental Health Service have kindly provided funding for Nature Walks along our beautiful river Freshney. This generosity by the service means that we can provide a series of walks to families absolutely free which benefits so many in these trying times.
It’s ALL About The Kids….
As well as providing some much needed downtime for parents these walks are a fun way to inspire and educate the children about our river and the wildlife that call it home. The children are given i-spy sheets in which they can tick off various fish, birds, and insects as they go. They are also tasked with finding the weir and pumping station that are part of flood mitigation. The Canoe River Cleaner uses his energy, passion, and knowledge to inspire those that attend, and it’s so far been a success.
What Can We See?
Biodiversity is rich on our river despite what people may think as it snakes it’s way through the concrete jungle of Grimsby town centre. Closer inspection offers regular sightings of Swift, Watervole, Sparrowhawk, as well as the usual fauna you’d expect to see. The banks are also rich in colour with a myriad of plant species providing sanctuary and food. As well as walking through the town the walks also take in the river close to it’s source and we are luckily enough to gift the families sighting of a real blow well that feeds our river!
